Lynne Neagle, AM member for Torfaen, the constituency in which the proposed Varteg Hill opencast sites is situated has asked Torfaen Council to delay determining the application until the Welsh Government publishes local planning guidance in May 2016. As reported in the South Wales Argus she said:
“The Minister announced his intention to undertake a focused review of MTAN 2, (the Planning Guidance document in question) including convening a summit which I attended,” said Ms Neagle.
“As I have since received written assurance that it is Welsh Government’s intention to begin a 12 week consultation on revised guidance before May 2016 – I see great merit in waiting for the outcome of this national review as it is fundamental to the issues under consideration with this application.”
LAON supports such a delay.
