Foe Cymru writes: “A mining company wants to dig yet another massive opencast coal pit at Nant Llesg at the head of the Rhymney Valley, near Merthyr Tydfil.
In April, Welsh Assembly members passed a motion calling for a moratorium (a temporary ban) on opencast mining in Wales. By allowing this new pit, the Welsh Government would be ignoring this motion entirely.
Local resident Alyson Austin has suffered the effects of opencast coal mining and has campaigned against it for many years. Can you help her by signing a petition calling on the Welsh Government to block the new coal mine?”
Petition is here. There have been 5800 signatures in the first few days.
